A wonderful blend of fantasy and reality.

Exhilarating. Magical. The first foreign movie I’ve ever seen in the theater was definitely nothing short of brilliance. Oscar contender? Without question. Should it win Best Picture? That’s the question.

My decision still hangs between Gladiator and Crouching Tiger. But I find myself leaning towards the latter, as the tree-top scene between Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-Fat) and Jen (Ziyi Zhang) replays in my memory.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon brilliantly intertwines two stories without dragging down either one. The fight scenes are almost magical... of course, they can fly, walk on walls, and leap to incredible heights with ease. What’s more, is the fact that the almost fantastical characters are also able to maintain their sincere, humanistic aura.

This is truly a masterpiece by director Ang Lee. For anyone who’s ever wanted a movie to truly cheer about, this is the ONE.
