DJ Hadoken 7 has this to say:
Resurrecting the old Funk posts has been like opening a time capsule. And as I’ve been busy digging through this time capsule, I’ve come across a couple of potential “time anomalies” that I’d like to share with you. To be more specific, I’m talking about “residual evidence” of two “Mandela Effects”.
In this post linked here, DJ Benvenuto listed a bunch of suggestions for DJ Hadoken to do while he was studying abroad in Japan. Towards the middle of the list, he wrote the following suggestion:
• When your host family isn’t around, imitate the classic scene from
Strictly Business. You know... the Tom Cruise movie with
Old Time Rock & Roll, sunglasses, underwear, white button-down
shirt... the whole nine yards... eh, you probably don’t know. Your lack of pop
culture knowledge baffles me.
Please note that the post linked above is the resurrected version (from an offline backup) of the original post (which was made in October of 2002). Now, because this is digital media, you’re just going to have to take my word that I did not alter what DJ Benvenuto wrote. I have done a bit of language-self-censoring and grammar-fixing and whatnot in other parts, but I did not deliberately change it in a way to seem like a Mandela Effect.
So with that said, I will continue to elaborate. In the post, he wrote “Strictly Business” but he’s referring to the Tom Cruise movie, “Risky Business”. The “residual evidence” is what comes right after that. He’s talking about the dance scene and mentions “sunglasses” and “white button-down shirt”. But, as many people familiar with this Mandela Effect already know, in “reality” Tom Cruise didn’t wear sunglasses in that scene and his shirt was PINK, not white.
DJ Benvenuto has always had an almost photographic memory of movies and pop culture happenings. So that’s why at the end he wrote the “eh, you probably don’t know. Your lack of pop culture knowledge baffles me” part. Besides calling it “Strictly Business” instead of “Risky Business” (which DJ Benvenuto may have done deliberately to confuse DJ Hadoken, because that was a thing he liked to do), he was pretty confident about the details he wrote.
At the time, the Tom Cruise “Risky Business” dance scene Mandela Effect was not even a concept in most people’s minds. DJ Benvenuto was just writing what he recalled from the movie. But what he recalled from the movie was actually wrong. And him mocking DJ Hadoken about “lack of pop culture knowledge” is pretty ironic now because he himself got the part about the sunglasses and shirt wrong.
OR DID HE..?
In this next post linked here, originally from the message board, DJ Wang made a request for Bear vs. Robot artwork. Towards the end, he wrote the following:
And some of the Hulk Smashes out there are saying, “Hey DJ Wang,
bears aren’t from nature!” I reply, “Go to the children’s section of
the library, look for The Berenstein Bears.” By the way, does
anyone remember those books? I sure do.
Those familiar with Mandela Effects should have already spotted the infamous BerenSTAIN Bear Mandela Effect here. DJ Wang clearly spelled it with an E and he even asserts that he sure does remember those books. So it’s safe to assume that he was confident about the spelling at the time.
The original post was made in July of 2001. And you’ll just have to take my word again that I did not deliberately change the A to an E. Like the Tom Cruise “Risky Business” Mandela Effect, the BerenSTAIN Bears Mandela Effect was not a concept in most people’s minds at the time. DJ Wang just wrote what he remembered.
So, there you go. Is this “residual evidence” of the Mandela Effect phenomenon, or just collective bad memory?
YOU DECIDE!
